In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the chopped pecans if desired.

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
