  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough in half and add green food coloring to one half.
  6. Wrap both dough portions in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Roll out the plain dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  9. Cut out different sized star shapes using star-shaped cookie cutters.
  10. Repeat the process with the green dough.
  11. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet, alternating between plain and green stars to form a tree shape.
  12. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  13. Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
  14. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk to make a glaze.
  15. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies and decorate with sprinkles.
  16. Allow the glaze to set before serving.
