Oatmeal cookies have been popular in the United States since the early 1900s and are often enjoyed with a glass of milk.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix well.

Stir in the quick oats.

Roll the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place them onto a greased baking sheet.

Make an indentation in the center of each cookie with your thumb or the back of a spoon.

Fill each indentation with a tablespoon of jam.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
