  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the prunes with hot water and let them soak for 10 minutes. Drain and chop the prunes.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Fold in the chopped prunes and walnuts.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the dish for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, dust the cake with powdered sugar before serving.
