  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Add the melted butter to the sugar mixture and mix well.
  5. Sift in the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until well combined.
  6. If desired, fold in the walnuts and chocolate chips.
  7. Pour the batter into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Allow the brownies to cool in the baking dish for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Cut into squares and serve.
