Remembrance Day “Poppy” Cookies
The poppy has been used as a symbol of remembrance since the end of World War I, and it is often worn on Remembrance Day as a tribute to fallen soldiers.
This is vegetarian recipe. Dish can be prepared in 55 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 8.

In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

Divide the dough in half and add red food coloring gel to one half.

Wrap each dough portion in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Take a small portion of each dough and roll them together to form a ball.

Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet and flatten them slightly.

Bake for 10 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.

Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, use a black food coloring pen to draw the outline of poppies on the red portion of the cookies.
