Green bean casserole became popular in the United States in the 1950s and is now a classic holiday dish.

In a large skillet, bring water to a boil and cook the green beans until tender. Drain and set aside.

In the same skillet, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and black pepper. Heat over medium heat until heated through.

Add the cooked green beans to the skillet and stir to coat the beans with the sauce.

Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle the French fried onions on top.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until the casserole is heated through and the onions are golden brown.

Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
