  2. Roll out one pie crust and place it in a pie dish.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the sour cherries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the cherry mixture into the pie crust.
  5. Dot the top of the filling with small pieces of butter.
  6. Roll out the second pie crust and cut it into strips.
  7. Create a lattice pattern on top of the pie by weaving the strips over and under each other.
  8. Trim the excess crust and crimp the edges.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolk and milk.
  10. Brush the egg wash over the top of the pie.
  11. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  12. Allow the pie to cool for at least 1 hour before serving.
  13. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
