Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.

In a small bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork. Stir in the lemon juice and lemon zest.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.

Fold in the mashed bananas.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the bread is still warm, poke holes on the top with a toothpick and drizzle the lemon syrup over the bread.
