  1. Preheat the grill or grill pan.
  2. Clean the Portobello mushrooms and remove the stems.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, balsamic vinegar, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Brush the mushroom caps with the marinade mixture.
  5. Grill the mushrooms for about 5 minutes on each side, until they are tender.
  6. While the mushrooms are grilling, slice the red bell pepper and onion.
  7. Saute the sliced red bell pepper and onion in a pan with olive oil until they are soft and slightly caramelized.
  8. Cut the ciabatta bread into sandwich-sized pieces and toast them lightly.
  9. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice.
