Cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk until smooth.

Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously. Cook until the mixture thickens.

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the grated cheddar cheese until melted.

Season with salt and black pepper.

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and mix well.

Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
