  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together, stirring until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar mixture, stirring constantly.
  5. Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt, and fold gently until just combined.
  6. If desired, fold in the walnuts.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the dish for about 1 hour.
  10. Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.
