Cheerios were introduced in 1941 and were originally called ‘CheeriOats’ due to the combination of toasted oats and corn. The name was later changed to ‘Cheerios’ in 1945.

  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Stir in the Cheerios cereal, rolled oats, and chocolate chips.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
