  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Cut butter into small pieces and mix into the flour mixture.
  4. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  5. Allow the dough to rest for 10 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a rope shape.
  8. Fold each rope in half and twist the two halves together, forming a pretzel shape.
  9. In a large saucepan, bring the water and baking soda to a boil.
