  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out one disk of dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out desired shapes using cookie cutters.
  8. Transfer the cut-out shapes to the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  10. Allow the gingerbread to cool completely on a wire rack.
  11. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk to make the icing.
  12. Once the gingerbread is cooled, decorate with the icing as desired.
  13. Let the icing set before serving.
