Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and sugar together.

In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add the melted butter and sugar mixture to the egg mixture, stirring constantly.

In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Fold in the walnuts and chocolate chips, if desired.

Pour the batter into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Allow the brownies to cool in the baking dish for 15 minutes.
