  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. In a small bowl, toss the diced apples with the granulated sugar.
  6. Spoon a small amount of the apple mixture into the bottom of each muffin cup. Top with the muffin batter, filling each cup about 3/4 full.
