Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, mix together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.

Add the vanilla extract and egg to the butter mixture and mix well.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.

Stir in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts, if desired.

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
