In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.

In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, melted butter, beaten egg, ground cardamom, and salt. Mix well.

Add the yeast mixture to the bowl and mix until well combined.

Gradually add the flour, mixing well after each addition, until a soft dough forms.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 3 equal parts. Roll each part into a long rope.

Braid the ropes together and transfer the braid onto the prepared baking sheet.

Brush the braid with milk and sprinkle pearl sugar on top.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before serving.
