Sugar Cookies
Sugar cookies are a popular treat during holiday seasons, especially Christmas, where they are often decorated with icing and sprinkles.

In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and transfer to the prepared baking sheets.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
