In a large bowl, soak the stale bread slices in milk until soft.

In a skillet, melt butter and sauté the onions and garlic until translucent.

In a greased baking dish, layer half of the bread slices.

Sprinkle half of the sautéed onions and garlic on top.

Sprinkle half of the cheese, salt, black pepper, and parsley.
