Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a baking dish with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together in short bursts, stirring in between, until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, stirring constantly.

Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.

Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the baking dish for 10 minutes.

Transfer the brownies to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.
