In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then stir in the milk.

Remove the hot skillet from the oven and add the butter. Swirl the skillet to melt the butter.

Add the jalapeno peppers to the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes until softened.

Pour the egg and milk mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Fold in the jalapeno peppers and cheddar cheese.

Carefully pour the batter into the hot skillet and smooth the top.
