Sticky buns are believed to have originated in Germany and were brought to the United States by German immigrants in the 18th century.

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until warm (about 110°F).
  3. Add the warm milk mixture and egg to the dry ingredients. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. In a separate bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, pecans, melted butter, corn syrup, and vanilla extract.
  7. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle.
  8. Spread the brown sugar mixture evenly over the dough.
  9. Roll up the dough tightly from one long side to the other, creating a log.
  10. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
  11. Cover the dish with a clean kitchen towel and let the buns rise for another 30 minutes.
  12. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  13. Bake the sticky buns for 25 minutes, or until golden brown and sticky.
  14. Remove from the oven and let them cool in the dish for 10 minutes.
  15. Invert the dish onto a serving platter, allowing the sticky caramel to drizzle over the buns.
  16. Serve warm and enjoy!
