  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if desired).
  6. Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough onto a greased or lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!
