Add pearl barley, cumin, turmeric, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to coat the barley with the spices.

Pour in vegetable broth and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 30 minutes or until the barley is tender and the liquid is absorbed.

Stir in green peas and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
