In a medium bowl, combine oats, flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Mix well.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chopped walnuts.

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Flatten each cookie slightly with the back of a spoon.
