Banana bread became popular during the Great Depression as a way to use overripe bananas instead of wasting them.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the mashed bananas, melted butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  6. Spoon Nutella over the batter and use a knife to swirl it into the batter.
  7. Pour the remaining batter over the Nutella and smooth the top.
  8. Sprinkle chopped hazelnuts on top.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Slice and serve.
