In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter and molasses.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.

In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Pour the mixture into the sourdough mixture and stir well.

Beat in the egg.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the sourdough mixture, alternating with hot water.

Pour the batter into a greased 9x9-inch baking dish.

Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
