Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square baking pan.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.

In a separate large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and egg until well combined. Stir in the molasses.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the hot water. Mix until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve the gingerbread with freshly whipped cream and a dusting of powdered sugar.
