Gingerbread has been enjoyed for centuries and is often associated with the holiday season.

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x9 inch pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Beat in the egg, then stir in the molasses.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well. Stir in the hot water.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Serve and enjoy!
