In a large bowl, combine the bran, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and brown sugar.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, egg, and buttermilk.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Fold in the raisins and chopped nuts.

Spoon the batter into a greased muffin tin, filling each cup about 2/3 full.

Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
