Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle.

Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits from the dough. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
