Jelly Doughnuts
Jelly doughnuts, also known as sufganiyot, are a traditional Hanukkah treat in Jewish cuisine.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.

In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter until butter is melted.

Add milk mixture and egg to the flour mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.

Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the doughnuts in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.

Remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

Once the doughnuts are cool enough to handle, use a piping bag or a small knife to fill each doughnut with jelly or jam.

Dust the doughnuts with powdered sugar before serving.
