Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a loaf tin.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Sift in the flour and baking powder, then fold in the lemon zest, almonds, candied cherries, and mixed peel.

Pour the batter into the prepared tin and smooth the top.

Bake for 1 hour, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let it rest in the tin for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
