The fruit crumble is believed to have originated in Britain during World War II when rationing made it difficult to find enough ingredients for traditional pies. Crumbles became popular due to their simplicity and use of readily available ingredients.

Peel and slice the fruit, removing any seeds or pits.

In a mixing bowl, combine the fruit with granulated sugar and toss to coat.

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.

Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Spread the fruit mixture evenly in a baking dish.

Sprinkle the crumble topping over the fruit, covering it completely.
