Thumbprint cookies originated in Sweden and are traditionally filled with fruit preserves, but this version adds a festive twist with eggnog filling.

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolks and vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and nutmeg. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  4. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheet. Make an indentation in the center of each ball using your thumb or the back of a teaspoon.
  5. Fill each indentation with eggnog. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  6. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once cooled, dust cookies with powdered sugar. Enjoy!
