Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds.

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.

Grease a baking dish and layer half of the potato slices on the bottom.

Pour half of the melted butter mixture over the potatoes.

Sprinkle half of the grated cheddar cheese on top.

Pour the milk over the top layer.
