Donita’s Caramel Brownies
Caramel brownies are believed to have originated in the United States in the early 20th century. They combine the rich flavors of chocolate and caramel for a decadent treat.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a square baking pan.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Stir in the sugar until well combined.

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the batter. Top with the remaining batter.

If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts on top.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 30 minutes before removing and slicing.
