Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds.

Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté until fragrant.

In a separate saucepan, heat the heavy cream until warm.

Layer half of the potato slices in a greased baking dish. Season with salt and pepper.

Pour half of the melted butter and garlic mixture over the potatoes. Sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese on top.

Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, butter mixture, and cheese.

Pour the warm heavy cream over the top.

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden and bubbly.
