Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a 20cm (8-inch) round cake tin.

In a saucepan, melt the butter, golden syrup, black treacle, and dark brown sugar together over low heat. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.

In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs. Gradually add the melted butter mixture, stirring continuously.

Sift in the plain flour, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and baking powder. Mix well to combine.

Stir in the milk until the batter is smooth.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and smooth the top.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the tin for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve the dark and sticky gingercake as is or with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
