Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a saucepan, combine the cranberries and 1/2 cup of sugar. Cook over medium heat until the cranberries burst, stirring occasionally. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/2 cup of sugar. Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined. Pour the cranberry mixture into a greased baking dish. Spread the batter over the cranberries. Bake for 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Let it rest for 30 minutes before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.
