Peel, core, and slice the apples. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples and granulated sugar. Stir until the apples are coated.

In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Spread half of the oat mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top with the apple mixture, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the apples.

Bake for 40 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
