Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Add the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt, and mix until well combined.

Stir in the vanilla extract. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and baking powder. Gradually add the flour mixture to the cocoa mixture, stirring until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
