  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the butter to the dry ingredients and rub it in until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  4. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese and chopped red chilli.
  5. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the milk.
  6. Stir until the dough comes together.
  7. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently a few times.
  8. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 2cm (3/4 inch).
  9. Use a round cutter to cut out scones and place them on a baking sheet.
  10. Brush the tops of the scones with beaten egg.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  12. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
