Add the broccoli and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender.

Use an immersion blender or transfer the soup to a blender to puree until smooth.

Return the soup to the pot and stir in the milk and cheddar cheese. Cook over low heat until the cheese is melted and the soup is heated through.
