Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.

In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and maraschino cherries.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
