The green bean casserole was created by the Campbell Soup Company in 1955 and has since become a popular Thanksgiving side dish in the United States.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large pot, bring water to a boil and blanch the green beans for 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.

In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir until well mixed.

Add the blanched green beans to the mixture and stir until coated.

Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish and spread it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Remove from the oven and sprinkle French fried onions on top.

Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.
