In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg yolks and vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until fully combined.

Divide the dough into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a 1 1/2-inch diameter log and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Slice the chilled logs into 1/2-inch thick rounds and place on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk to make the glaze. Add food coloring if desired.
