In a large bowl, combine semolina, sugar, yogurt, melted butter, baking powder, and vanilla extract. Mix well until the batter is smooth.

Pour the batter into the greased baking dish and spread it evenly.

Use a knife to score the batter into diamond or square shapes.

Place an almond slice in the center of each scored shape.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Meanwhile, prepare the syrup by combining sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.

Remove the basbousa from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it. Let it rest for 30 minutes to absorb the syrup.
